MembershipMEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES Membership in the Atlanta Medical Association is on a calendar years basis from January 1 through December 31. Membership renewal is October 1 through December 31, but new members are encouraged to join at anytime during the year. Active Membership shall be granted to doctors of medicine and doctors of osteopathathy who are duly licensed and legally registered, who reside and or practice in Atlanta and its environs, and who would be eligible to join the National Medical Association. Active members shall be required to pay membership dues and may vote and hold office. Emeritus Membership shall be conferred upon those active members who have practiced medicine in our community for ten (10) or more years and who have attained the age of seventy (70) years or have retired from the practice of medicine due to medical disability. Associate Membership is open to 1) post graduate physicians in training (interns, residents, and fellows) in an accredited medical education program located in the metropolitan Atlanta area, 2) physicians engaged in academic teaching and other duties in an accredited medical school and not engaged in clinical practice, 3) physicians in State and local health departments, 4) physicians in Federal Service (including Active Military Duty). Physicians in this category may elect active membership. Associate members shall be required to pay discounted membership dues as set forth by the Atlanta Medical Association Bylaws. Associate members shall not vote or hold office. Student Membership is open to students duly matriculating in an accredited medical school. Student members shall not vote or hold office. Honorary Membership shall be conferred upon certain individuals whom the “Association” wishes to bestow honor for their worthwhile and notable contributions. The selection of such members shall be at the discretion of the “Association” and may include non-medical persons. Honorary members shall not be requited to pay membership dues and shall not vote or hold office. Inactive Membership shall be granted to those individuals who have held active membership in good standing and who, for reasons acceptable to the Association, are no longer able to continue in an active capacity.
