Atlanta Medical Association General Body Meetings
The Atlanta Medical Association's general body meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month with the exception of January, June, July and August. See the calendar of events for tentative dates. These Scientific Meetings are held at the new Paschal's at Castlebury Hills located at 180 B Northside Drive (three blocks south of the Georgia Dome). Reception: 6:30 PM and Dinner Meeting: 7:00 PM unless otherwise specified. Meetings are open to all physicians including perspective members. CME credit is provided for scientific presentations and dinner is served. For special presentations an admission fee may be charged to the public and nonmembers. The Atlanta Medical Association (AMA) Inaugural/Scholarship Ball (http://www.AMAheritagefund.org)
Description
This annual black-tie gala is the AMA's largest fundraiser event. The highlight of this event is the presentation of scholarship awards to minority medical students. The event also includes the installation of new officers and special recognition of AMA members who demonstrate outstanding service in the field of medicine, to the organization and in the community. The Atlanta Medical Association Scholarships Awards are presented to medical students matriculating at three historically African American medical schools (Howard University Medical School, Meharry Medical College, Morehouse School of Medicine). In addition, the Erich Randolph Scholarship is presented to African American medical students at Emory University who have demonstrated academic achievements and community involvement. The Annual Legislative Dinner
Description
The Legislative Dinner is an Annual event held in February of each year during the Georgia Legislative Session. In keeping with the AMA's mission, the purpose of the Legislative Dinner is to afford physicians an opportunity to discuss pertinent healthcare issues and legislation with distinguished members of the Georgia General Assembly.

Highlights
The Atlanta Medical Association hosted its Ninth Annual Legislative Dinner on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at The Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center (Reception @ 6:00PM ; Dinner @ 7:00PM ). As in the past, the Dinner was co-sponsored by Georgia State Medical Association, Medical Association of Atlanta, and the Georgia Physicians Association.

Attendees included Secretary of State Cathy Cox, Asst. Secretary of State Terrell Slayton, Insurance Commissioner John W. Oxendine and distinguished members of the Georgia General Assembly. The keynote speaker was the Senator Preston W. Smith (District 52, State of Georgia ). Additional speakers included Honorable Terrell Slayton, Honorable Stan Watson (Chair, Georgia Legislative Black Caucus) and Honorable Willie Adams, M.D. (Mayor, City of Albany - Dougherty County, Georgia).

Through the Heritage Fund of the Atlanta Medical Association, the 501(c) 3 branch of the organization, deserving medical students at Morehouse School of Medicine, Howard Medical School, and Meharry Medical College have been awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships at the Annual Inaugural/Scholarship Ball held in January each year. For “planned giving” the Heritage Trust Fund accepts contributions from estates, as well as, individuals, corporations, churches, and members of the Atlanta Medical Association and the Auxiliary to the Atlanta Medical Association. The Atlanta Medical Association Healthcare Forum
The AMA has been actively addressing manage care related issues since its first public forum in 1996 entitled, “Managed Care and its Effects on African American Physicians and Minority Businesses.” In the fall of 2001, the Atlanta Medical Association hosted a forum on HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and a Medical Coding Workshop in 2002. The 2003 Forum will be held in November 2003.
